Let’s start with a comment from avid Tuna eater (husband, who else 😂) “this tastes better than the real tuna melt”!! that says it all #amirite @meetunmeat.us. Sharing step by step how I made it below.
INGREDIENTS: (serves 4 people)
- 2 cans spicy plant based tuna flakes (I used @meetunmeat.us)
- 1/2 cup diced red onion
- 1/2 cup diced celery
- 1/8 cup diced spring onion
- 3 tbsps avocado oil mayo
- 1 tbsp dijon honey mustard
- 1 tsp cumin seeds powder
- 1 tbsp kitchen king masala (optional)
- 1 tsp ajwain (carom seeds)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp red chilli falkes
- 100-150 gms shaved cheddar cheese
- 8 slices of white bread (I used small sandwich bread)
- 2 cups spring greens
- Honey to drizzle on top
METHOD:
- In a bowl, put the tuna flakes and add fresh water. I always like to rinse and then strain canned food in fresh water.
- In a separate bowl, add strained tuna flakes, onions, celery, spring onions, cumin seeds powder, ajwain, kitchen king masala, mayonnaise, Jon mustard, chili flakes and salt. Combine well.
- Toast the bread slides in the toaster.
- Line the baying tray w/ parchment.
- Place the toasted bread. Lay the shaved cheddar cheese, then handful of spring greens, 3 tbsps of tuna mix, more cheese, sprinkle of chili flakes.
- Broil until cheese melts.
- Drizzle honey on top and enjoy with some crinkled potato chips!
